Jake Paul is set to face Nate Diaz on August 5th in Texas. Michael Bisping shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel earlier today.
Bisping began by referencing a fan’s tweet where they had asked Jake Paul on Twitter if he would be willing to fight Nate Diaz in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). This was a relevant question given that Paul recently signed with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) and because Diaz is now a free agent having fought out his contract with the UFC.
Jake responded to the fan that he had already proposed to fight under MMA rules but Diaz had turned the offer down. If you were to take Paul’s comments at face value, it would be easy to think he was trolling as usual; however, Diaz did mention in the press conference that he intends to return to MMA after the Paul bout, but it would only be to fight top contenders only, something which he has done throughout his fight career.
Before making his prediction for the fight on his YouTube Channel, Bisping gave his thoughts on Paul, which were not very complimentary, saying (somewhat in jest) that ”Jake Paul is a little d***head”.
The former UFC Middleweight champion then mentioned that Paul had recently slid into the UFC commentator’s DM’s and had begun a back-and-forth argument, which Bisping seemed surprised by.
”I don’t know him; I’ve never met him. I’ve never said anything personal about him; all I’ve ever said was that I wish the guy would fight a boxer because he [Paul] talks about fighting Canelo Alvarez, talks about being the pound-for-pound number one”.
Bisping then corrected himself, referencing Paul’s recent fight with professional boxer Tommy Fury which ended in defeat, a fight which he said Paul should be seeking a rematch for.
”If he really is the man he thinks he is, then he should be boxing Tommy Fury again. But he doesn’t want to do that, does he? [He] doesn’t want to run the risk because he can’t lose two in a row because then the ride is over, the Disney adventure, the Disney wild ride of Jake Paul going into boxing”.
Regardless of whatever people think of Jake Paul’s boxing career, the way he has dispatched MMA fighters in the boxing ring on previous occasions has surprised most. If you asked the question just over two years ago, ‘who would win in a boxing match, Jake Paul or Nate Diaz?’, you would struggle to get many backers for the former.
One person who is backing Paul is boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who was speaking on his Matchroom YouTube channel last week in an interview with Ariel Helwani. ”I think Jake Paul beats him [Nate Diaz] comfortably. I really hope Nate Diaz wins, but I think he gets stopped”.
Eddie Hearn isn’t the only person in the combat industry picking Jake Paul. Dustin Poirier gave a similar opinion on the bout yesterday, and Bisping didn’t sway too far from this either:
”I don’t know which way to lean on that one [the fight]. Probably Jake [Paul] because he is the bigger guy, he’s more explosive, he’s younger, and he’s a boxer(ish)”.
This probably isn’t the last we’ve heard of the Jake Paul, Michael Bisping drama, as both men are known for retaliating to social media jabs.
