Following a disappointing showing last time out in Paris against Jon Jones for the UFC Heavyweight title, Cyril Gane returned to winning ways on Saturday night at the Accord Arena in Paris.
Gane dominated Sergey Spivak and nullified Spivac’s wrestling to cruise to a TKO victory in the second round, earning himself a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. The extra funds will be even more appreciated following the report from Le Parisien that Cyril Gane’s home was robbed during UFC’s event in Paris on Saturday night.
The Frenchman, who has a residence in Nogent-sur-Marne, reportedly had numerous items of jewelry taken from his house in the burglary, including a Rolex watch. It’s estimated that the total value of belongings taken from Gane’s home is over $150,000.
The news dampens Gane’s weekend, as his victory has put him back on the path to another title shot. He previously held the interim UFC Heavyweight title after knocking out Derrick Lewis two years ago. Gane then lost to Francis Ngannou at UFC 285 in an attempt to become the undisputed king of the heavyweight division.
Saturday night’s victory could put Gane on a collision course with the highly-rated British up-and-comer Tom Aspinall, who was in attendance in Paris to witness Cyril Gane dispatch his opponent in style. Should Gane and Aspinall face off, it would be difficult to deny the victor a shot against the winner of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 295.
The route to a third heavyweight title shot for Cyril Gane might not be as straightforward as that, with Sergei Pavlovich boasting an impressive 18-1 record, with his last three victories coming against Curtis Blaydes, Tai Tuivasa, and Derrick Lewis. Indeed, it is a resume worthy of a title shot.
Fighting is probably the last thing on Cyril Gane’s mind following the alleged burglary. First and foremost, he will be hoping that the French police can retrieve as much of the stolen jewelry as possible and catch the perpetrator (s) responsible.
