Taking to the organization’s social media platforms earlier today, the UFC President, Dana White, had some big fight announcements to make.
UFC 295 Co-Main
The main event for UFC 295 sees Jon Jones defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic in what is, in many people’s eyes, the Greatest Of All Time against the Greatest Heavyweight Of All Time. The card on November 11 has just now been given a co-main event, and fans will be delighted to hear that not one but two titles will be on the line at UFC 295.
Jiri Prochazka will face Alex Pereira for the vacant UFC Lightheavyweight Championship. Prochazka vacated the title following a horrific shoulder injury, and the most recent champion, Jamahal Hill, also vacated the title following a serious impairment to his Achilles. Now, on November 11, the seemingly cursed title will again have a champion.
The co-main event at UFC 295 will be the second fight at this weight for Alex Pereira as he moved up to the 205lb weight division for the first time earlier this year. The introduction of ‘Poatan’ to the light heavyweights has injected some much-needed buzz into the division, which has been sleeping now for some time.
Jiri Prochazka’s last five fights
- Glover Teixeira (W) – won the light heavyweight title
- Dominick Reyes (W)
- Volkan Oezdemir (W)
- C.B Dolloway (W)
- Fabio Maldonado (W)
Alex Pereira’s last five fights
- Jan Blachowicz (W)
- Israel Adesanya (L) – lost the middleweight title
- Israel Adesanya (W) – won the middleweight title
- Seam Strickland (W)
- Bruno Silva (W)
UFC 296 Main Event
This fight will get fans salivating. One could argue that the welterweight division is another ‘sleeper’ weight class following the radio silence regarding the second title defense of Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards. Since his victory over Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 back in March, fans have been wondering who his next fight will be against, and now we have the answer.
Confirming the rumors that have been circulating for a couple of months, Colby Covington has been granted his third crack at welterweight gold at UFC 296 on December 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leon Edwards hasn’t lost a fight in over eight years but will have a really tough test against the cardio machine that is Covington.
Leon Edwards’ last five fights
- Kamaru Usman (W) – defended welterweight title
- Kamaru Usman (W) – won welterweight title
- Nate Diaz (W)
- Belal Muhammad (NC) – accidental eye poke from Edwards
- Rafael dos Anjos (W)
Colby Covington’s last five fights

UFC 296 Co-Main
Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja defends the title he won against Brandon Moreno at UFC 290 for the first time. Standing opposite him will be the number four-ranked Brandon Royal. The pair have fought before, which ended in a second-round submission victory for Pantoja by way of a rear-naked choke.
Brandon Royval has earned his shot at redemption against Pantoja following recent victories over Matheus Nicolau and Matt Schnell.
