Following a verbal slanging match between Dillon Danis and Logan Paul, Tuesday’s press conference descended into chaos after just fifteen minutes. It was called off after the event became farcical, even by YouTuber Boxing standards.
So what went down during today’s press conference?
Dillon Danis surprised many when he attended the press conference in London today ahead of his boxing match with Logan Paul on Saturday, October 14. After he withdrew from his bout against KSI, which was scheduled to take place back in January, many have doubted the Mixed Martial Artist’s intentions to enter the world of crossover boxing.
Such doubts remain about Danis’ genuine desire to box, despite the fact he flew to London for the press conference today. It’s been a very long time since Danis last competed; 1530 days, according to Logan Paul. As the press conference began, both men brought props onto the stage (as all serious boxers do.)
First up was Dillon Danis, who sported headwear in the shape of an alien from the film ‘Toy Story.’ It was an apparent dig at Paul about one of his infamous YouTube videos where he recorded and then uploaded footage of a man who had recently taken his own life.
Logan Paul then brought out a poster of the altercation between Danis and a security guard outside a restaurant where Danis was ‘choked out,’ following an argument, footage of which went viral. Shortly after, things got juicier when the fighters headlining the card on October 14 entered the stage, Tommy Fury and KSI, the former being accompanied by his trainer and father, John Fury.
Verbal insults continued to fly between Logan Paul and Dillon Danis before the real star of the show, John Fury, told both men to stop all of the silliness and asked them to speak about the upcoming fight instead, as opposed to trading personal insults. The request was ignored as Paul brought a Danis-shaped birthday cake onto the stage. John Fury had seen enough. He threatened Logan Paul with a fight if such cake was thrown – he had no time for such childish behavior.
The comment from John Fury didn’t age well as just a couple of minutes later, he interrupted Logan Paul, stood up, and proclaimed that the Fury’s were the best fighters in the world and that despite being fifty years old, he would be willing to fight anybody in attendance. His sudden outburst confused most people in attendance but also brought a few laughs. ‘I’m a machine’ Fury screamed, before kicking the tables off the stage and starting a brawl.
Once things calmed down, it was decided by the organizers that the press conference would not continue. Overall, the press conference was very bizarre and didn’t do much to build the fight; instead, the antics arguably made the event even more of a mockery.
Sure, the clips from today have gone viral, which will please the broadcasters. Will today’s farcical events convert into pay-per-view sales? Sadly, it probably will.
Danis goes into the fight as a huge five-to-one underdog against Logan Paul. The bookmakers think KSI has more chance of beating Tommy Fury than Dillon Danis has of defeating Logan Paul.
