After weeks of speculation, the UFC President, Dana White, has announced the main event for the organization’s huge event in April. Earlier this week, Dana White revealed that he would announce the main event for the card after the conclusion of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria, which the latter won via second-round knockout to become the UFC’s new Featherweight Champion.
Dana White Reveals UFC 300 Headliner
White’s announcement came after he lost a bet with MMA Influencer Nina Drama, as she posted a video on Instagram and said that if the post received 10,000 comments, then Dana would make the announcement. Expected to be announced in the UFC 298 post-fight press conference, the revelation of Jamahal Hill vs. Alex Pereira came earlier than expected, as White posted a clip to his X account shortly after the UFC 298 card ended.
Hill vs. Pereira will compete for the UFC Lightweight title on Saturday, April 13 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a card that has struggled to find a main event in recent weeks, with Jon Jones ruling himself out due to not having fully recovered from his pectoral surgery.
Michael Chandler was in attendance at UFC 298, and fans on social media speculated that Dana White’s announcement would include him and Conor McGregor, but that wasn’t to be. Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad was also rumored for UFC 300, but fans will have to wait a little longer to see the Brit make his third title defense following wins over Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. Israel Adesanya vs. Dricus du Plessis is another bout that is still just a fantasy for MMA fans at this point, but we should get some more announcements in the coming weeks regarding all of the above.
So there we have it: Jamahal Hill against Alex Pereira as the main event for 300, with Justin Gaethje versus Max Holloway in the co-main for the BMF title. What do you make of the announcement? Let us know in the comments.
