The YouTuber turned WWE star turned boxer spoke with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour show to talk about his upcoming bout with MMA fighter Dillon Danis on October 14.
Helwani asked why Logan Paul is returning to boxing given the fact he is now a bonafide member of the WWE roster.
”Boxing is just so much more intensely violent,” – said Logan Paul. ”Both sports have their danger, and both are extremely primal. I often feel like I was born in the wrong generation; I like the idea of two men, two women, humans going at it. Boxing ignites a certain part of my brain and wrestling doesn’t. Wrestling ignites a certain part of my brain that boxing doesn’t.”
Paul said that it’s difficult to schedule time for boxing as he is contracted to be a fully-fledged member of the WWE but said that the wrestling organization had been flexible in regards to Paul being able to pursue other things.
Why did Logan Paul choose Dillon Danis as his opponent?
Logan Paul recalled recently a time when he had just performed at SummerSlam for the WWE and hopped on a jet immediately afterward to watch his brother, Jake, box the MMA legend Nate Diaz. Paul alleges that Helwani told him at the fight that Danis doesn’t deserve to fight him, and Paul agreed, saying he was looking forward to kicking the **** out of him.
Revealing some information regarding the contracts, Paul told Helwani that his pay would depend on pay-per-view sales. Due to being a social media star, Paul was happy with this arrangement. In contrast, Dillon Danis is getting a flat fee minus $100,000 that he must pay Scott Coker of Bellator to enable him to be temporarily released from his contract to fight outside the MMA organization.
Discussing the social media antics of Dillon Danis regarding the constant bombardment of Logan Paul’s fiance, Nina Agdal, Paul understood that Danis was promoting the fight but said he thought that a line had been crossed. At first, all was fair, but according to Paul, the behavior from Danis became harassing in nature and obsessive due to the sheer number of posts from Danis regarding Nina Agdal. Paul’s fiance has recently began legal proceedings against Dillon Danis.
What if Danis doesn’t show up?
Mike Perry is the backup fighter in case Dillon Danis doesn’t show up to fight. Paul acknowledged this wouldn’t be an easy task when asked for his thoughts on potentially having to box Perry:
”It sucks because Mike Perry is no joke. He’s an orthodox fighter. When you’ve been preparing for a southpaw MMA fighter [Danis] for two months, studying his tactics, getting his techniques down to beat a southpaw, and you’re not sure if that guy is going to show up. Instead, the guy that is going to show up [Perry] is an absolute brick of a human, a tank, who walks forward and can take any shot possible in an orthodox position, it’s going to f**k up my gameplan.”
Paul said that he thinks Dillon Danis will show up and the fight will go ahead; however, he wouldn’t be surprised if his opponent intentionally injures himself to both get out of fighting Logan Paul and pay the $100,000 fine he would accrue due to pulling out.
