After Conor McGregor had to pull out of his fight with Michael Chandler at UFC 303 later this month due to a broken toe, fans have been left wondering when (and if) we will see ‘The Notorious’ back in the Octagon again. McGregor recently stated that he should be healed in a matter of weeks and wants to reschedule his fight with Chandler for either August or September. Oscar Willis of The Mac Life put this to Dana White at the post-fight press conference for UFC Saudi Arabia:
”I don’t know right now. Our schedule is laid out, so we’ll see” – said Dana White. ”I’m not doing anything until I know that Conor is healthy. It’s not even worth talking about. He’s not even ready, so why even talk about that” [an August or September return.]\
The comments from the UFC President indicate that pencilling in the return of his biggest star isn’t high on the agenda. As we’ve seen time and time again, though, the UFC is highly experienced in dealing with issues arising at the last minute, whether that be having to cancel, rearrange, or create fights. Conor McGregor was present at the recent Bellator Event in Dublin, and told commentator Dan Hardy that he intends to get back in the Octagon as soon as his health allows:
”I’m still here, rocking away. I had a little lapse of concentration and, you know, I had to reschedule the bout so I’m a little upset about that but it’s keeping me dialled in, it’s keeping me focussed, you know? I’m onwards towards the new date. It was a lapse in concentration. If I was any of these other little bums, Dan, that can’t move, that have no footwork, that don’t rely on their skills, then I would be OK” – said Conor McGregor.
McGregor went on to tell Dan Hardy he has fought while injured on occasion before [alas, the Chad Mendes fight], and it’s not something he wishes to do again as he wants to be as close to one hundred per cent as possible going into a fight:
”I’ve done it before. I’ve made the walk a multitude of times under those circumstances [being injured] and giving these bums an advantage over me that they don’t even deserve. Now I’m dialling it in, I’m getting these training camps correct, and I’m walking in there 100 per cent Conor McGregor, injury-free; perfection is on the menu with me, and that’s it.”
