The long-awaited UFC 5 video game will be released on October 27 for PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S. EA Sports just released information regarding new game features and improvements over it’s predecessor, UFC 4.
Real Impact System
Unlike previous games where injuries to fighters were superficial, EA Sports UFC 5’s updated system accurately reflects the physical toll the fighter experiences during a match, influencing the athlete’s condition and the fight itself as it progresses. It’s demonstrated visually with new damage icons, which can be found at the top of the screen.
The icons appear when athletes get cut in areas where the athlete’s vision could be impaired. This leads to an increase in damage you take while the penalty is active. After thirty seconds, if you take no further damage, the icon disappears, and the fighter recovers. This is also the case when a new round begins.
Breathing Penalty Icon
This affects your fighter’s stamina; the icon appears when an athlete is struck on the nose or mouth. If you can protect yourself, the penalty will be lifted under the same conditions as the real impact system.
There will be three stun icons, one each for the head, body, and legs. For health, there will also be three icons, one representing the heart and one each for the arms and legs. They will represent the effects a submission attempt has on the fighter. The heart icon will appear due to a choke, for example. An arm bar or a kimura will affect a fighter’s ability to block later in the fight should they escape. A loss in permanent leg health will occur if a fighter is on the receiving end of a leg lock.
Essentially, there will be real consequences to actions in UFC 5. Bouts won’t be as generic compared to UFC4.
Doctor Stoppages
For the first time in the UFC game series, doctor stoppages will now be a viable method of victory, adding more realism to the game if you cause your opponent significant damage to the head (except the mouth area). An icon will appear yellow and darken if more damage is sustained. The darker the color, the more likely a doctor will examine the injury, which could result in the fight ending.
Compared to UFC 4, there will be more emphasis on mastering the defensive aspect of fighting as the mechanisms have been upgraded.
Head movement is more responsive, and footwork is more important than ever. Fighters with better footwork stats will noticeably move quicker, and lunges will use up less stamina than UFC 4.
In summary, here are the new features for UFC 5 are:
- Real Impact System
- New Striking Animations
- Doctor Stoppages
- New Animations
- Brand New Submission System
