MMA fanatics have been eagerly anticipating the release date of UFC 5 for some time. Although fight fans have yet to require the same patience as Grand Theft Auto fans, who have been waiting almost a decade for GTA 6, it still seems like an age since UFC 4 came out.
The first EA Sports UFC was released in April 2015, and fans have been treated to a sequel every two years up until EA Sports UFC 4, which came out in the summer of 2020. The pattern has since been broken, with it now being over three years since the last installment of the video game series.
The cover stars for UFC 4 were up-and-coming star (at the time) Israel Adesanya and the veteran Jorge Masvidal, who had just begun a resurgence with one of the most memorable knockouts in UFC history with a flying knee to Ben Askren in the opening seconds of the fight. The cover athlete for UFC 5 has yet to be revealed. However, many are speculating that it will be the UFC Featherweight Champion, Alexander Volkanovski.
Excitement began swirling in the MMA community last week as a teaser trailer for the upcoming UFC 5 game was released. Rumors have been circulating ever since as to when the release date will be, and we may now have an answer.
New Features
A new rumored feature for UFC 5 is an online career mode. Players will be matched against others with a similar skill level and will compete to rise up the rankings to become the champion in one of four divisions. A key difference to previous UFC games is players will earn ‘evolution points’ the more they play online, and said points can be used to improve the attributes of their created fighters.
According to the source for Insider Gaming, other new features expected for EA Sports UFC 5 are:
- A new game engine, now using Frostbite instead of Ignition Engine. This will increase the frame rate to 60 FPS
- Sixty-four thousand different ways to cause damage due to enhanced graphics and game mechanics.
- Sophisticated matchmaking system to ensure fair and competitive online fights
- Cinematic replays for knockouts
- Newly built system mechanics for transitions
Release date
The source has revealed that the release date for EA Sports UFC 5 is October 27, and it will be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. There has yet to be a confirmation regarding whether or not the game will be available on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
